Cerebral Palsy Day

Suresh Menon was detected with hemiplegic cerebral palsy, where the brain damage and renders the dysfunctionality of the limbs.  His parents noticed that as a kid he did not achieve the required milestone of the normal child. They immediately consulted a neurologist who enlightened them about stem cell therapy.

Children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy have postural stability problems. The ability to maintain the body position requires the complex combination of the nervous system (brain communication) and musculoskeletal system. As the disease affects both systems, postural instability does occur.  As these children have both their static and dynamic postural stability affected, more rehabilitation interventions are needed to improve their conditions.

Surfing the net, Mr. and Mrs. Menon stumbled upon vital information about NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute. They had a meeting with Dr. Alok Sharma and Dr. Nandini Gokulchandran who after examining the condition of Suresh advised Stem Cell Therapy for Suresh. In August 2014, Suresh underwent stem cell therapy and an extensive rehabilitation program as well. He was given a series of exercises by the physiotherapists to help him strengthen his trunk muscles and to improve his balance. He also underwent speech therapy to help him with his speech. Stem cell therapy and occupational therapies improved his stamina.

Mrs. Menon said in an interview, “When my son was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, it was as shocking as one can imagine. First I was not able to fully comprehend what exactly cerebral palsy was and this lack of information sent me spiralling down a dark hole. I consulted a series of doctors and most suggested physiotherapy as the only option. Therefore, we stared physiotherapy sessions with Suresh but I was not very satisfied with the results. NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute were like a ray of hope I needed. I understood about stem cell therapy and felt this was the right path. On the advice of the doctors given to me, we follow the exercise regime given to Suresh even in our home and are extremely pleased with the results. I look forward to his daily therapy sessions and am eagerly waiting for the day when my son will take his first independent step.”
