CASE REPORT 1

This case is of a patient who visited NeuroGen after he had suffered a stroke two years ago. When we studied his case, he had an abnormality in muscle tone and voluntary control of movements. Several investigations showed the brain areas with abnormalities. A new diagnostic tool called Positron Emission Tomography showed reduced FDG brain metabolism in right basal ganglia, bilateral mesial temporal structures including bilateral anterior and middle cingulate gyri, parahippocampal gyrus, amygdale as well as hippocampus, left hemi cerebellum, secondary to crossed cerebellar diaschisis. On doing some psychological assessment, he showed signs of mild mood disturbances.

Improvements seen in the patient post cell therapy for stroke

  • He could feel the movements of his wrist were improved and his movement control was better.

  • The tightness of his fingers had reduced and he could release them.

  • The movement of his shoulders had better control.

  • His walking pattern had changed and he was more stable.

After three months of Stroke Cell Treatment, he could walk much better, his toes did not curl and he could wear and hold onto the footwear.

Improvisations were seen in his hand movements and functions. After six months, he was able to walk independently. He could carry out the functions of daily living without any support. Nine months after stroke cell treatment, his physical condition kept improving and functionally he was much better and was confident he could travel in train on his own.

What the patient’s parents have to say?

“It was a long and difficult wait for us to see our son suffer for the last two years. After his successful cell therapy for stroke, his movement control greatly improved. That was the biggest and the sure sign of recovery. We are happy to say that the tightness of his fingers has lessened and he can release them now. Also, the movement of his shoulders has better control and his walking pattern have changed for the better. He is more stable today and can carry on his normal routines independently. With time, he is improving a lot and today he can even travel on his own. I am proud that he is fighting his way out independently despite all odds.”

CASE REPORT 2

This patient was a 65 year old man who suffered from stroke and paralysis. He had suffered a stroke one year ago and he visited NeuroGen in May 2010. When we assessed his case, he had some abnormalities in his muscle tone. His speech was unclear and he had to repeat himself a couple of times. His movement control was affected. He had profound weakness in the muscles of his left side and reduced shoulder control. His foot muscles did not function at all and he suffered from a foot drop. So he had to walk with the help of assistive device. He therefore walked with the help of assistive device called Ankle Foot Orthosis and a support of cane.

He could perform his daily activities independently but still he needed some assistance in dressing the lower body. He was pinning a lot on his stroke cell treatment.

Improvements seen in the patient post cell therapy for stroke

  • He had lesser shoulder pain and his range of motion was improved.

  • He could travel from his home to NeuroGen on his own not feeling tired and breathless after a month.

  • His walking ability had significantly improved.

  • His hand movements were much better and did not need as much assistance for dressing.

  • His movements were more controlled and faster than before. Now he could stand on his own for more than five minutes.

After two months, he could walk indoors on his own without taking any help from assistive devices. His stamina power had increased. There was a reduction in the tone abnormalities of the muscles. After six months, his improvement was unwavering and he was functionally independent for his daily activities. He was enthusiastic on his journey towards independence. He was very determined and motivated and complied with rehabilitation.

He could wait to regain his old self and happy with the results of his first therapy, he decided to do it again. After seven months, he underwent cell therapy for stroke for the second time. Initially there no significant change in him, but after three months, he did show improvement in his hand and shoulder functioning. Six months later however the hand function had improved. After 15 months, he was able to live on his own and was completely functional.
